Adam Hirst is Managing Director of Home Efficiency Group, an organisation dedicated to simultaneously improving comfort levels within homes and providing energy savings. The company was started when Adam became frustrated with inefficiencies in his own house. It was hard to keep warm, had an undersized heater and generated huge electricity bills to ensure that his children's bedrooms were kept warm. What started with simple draft-proofing and insulation in his own home has grown into passion, qualifications and plenty of experience managing teams to professionally install a range of "home efficiency" products, and acting as sales agents for others (e.g. CSR Bradford Solar Power Systems) .
Adam's background is varied, revolving around large scale IT project management, software training, services marketing and software architecture. With a Bachelor of Commerce degree from UTas and computing courses through Monash University, the switch to a bricks and mortar industry was a real sea change, and a real challenge.
Adam sees his non-trade background as a distinct benefit as he feels he can look at non-traditional solutions to common issues, and isn't afraid to work with local and international suppliers to achieve the required end-products. Staff are trained to view themselves as professional service providers, not as "tradies", and this is reflected in our work, including the number of drop sheets, self-provided vacuum cleaners and attention to detail that is provided.
Having installed over 4000 systems across Tasmania, Home Efficiency Group looks forward to continued growth delivering services to households that make a meaningful difference to comfort levels and home health.
